Moyvilla Solar Farm is a 12 MW solar energy project proposed for Bushfield, Co. Galway. Spanning 36.82 hectares, it is designed to generate renewable electricity and export it to the national grid through a new underground cable connection. Solar Farm Infrastructure

The development will comprise of:

  • Approx. 235,900 m² of PV panels on steel frames
  • 7 inverter/transformer stations
  • Internal tracks, underground cabling & boundary fencing
  • Landscaping, biodiversity areas & boundary treatments
  • 110 kV underground cable (via the R446)
  • Connection to Shantallow–Moyveela 110 kV substation

Design & Environment

The project covers a 36.82-hectare irregular greenfield site located within a “Class 1 – Low Sensitivity” landscape under the Galway County Development Plan. The design incorporates a full biodiversity management plan, landscape enhancements, and the managed removal of only limited hedgerow or stone wall sections where required to accommodate the layout.

Environmental & Planning Context

The project aligns with County Galway Development Plan policies LARES 3, RE 1, RE 4, and CC 2, supporting renewable generation and Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon economy. Moyvilla Solar Farm will connect to the permitted Moyveela 110 kV substation, contributing to the region’s growing renewable energy infrastructure.
